Letter to a friend…

Remember that fairy tale we read together?

The prince and princess wearing crowns studded
With rarest of gems!
I got the similar ones made from my jeweler.
But he says he’ll have to replace the gems with artificial colored stones
I Compromised!

And you remember we read about the lamp they had that
Emitted the light of love?
I tried finding it in each mall but managed to find just an ordinary one
They sold it saying “The soothing light will make you fall in love”
I bought it with the explanation.
I Compromised!

And how could I forget those fruits the prince plucked from the tree of wishes
He gifted each wish to the princess.
There are not many fruit trees left in my city. I just bought a few fruits from the fruit seller. One of them was even rotten.
Does that mean our wishes are rotting out? Maybe!
But…I Compromised!

I managed to get most of the things we read about in that fairy tale.
Last night….
I tried to make that fairy tale a reality
But I couldn’t
This time I can’t compromise!

So I am giving up the real and going back to where we started.
No compromises anymore.

Hope you read me in the next fairy tale.

Knots of Thoughts!!!

- Let’s break the pink and blue codes…paint your room white and splash all colors on the walls…all by yourself!

- Being secure is to know that you and only you belong to yourself.

- Monsoons make me gloomy and then it pours, cleanses and takes all the dust away. I see more clearly now!

- Remember those far away lights that we could see from marine drive? we didn’t even realize when we reached there with our thoughts.

- The charm of I AM. The satisfaction of I THINK. The beauty of I REALISE. The being of nothing but ME.

- Enough of talking is done. It’s time to find a place to be silent with each other now.

- Each time you smile at me, it’s like a church bell ringing far away…when I thought there was nothing but barren death struck land around!

- I have always been looking for right words and right times, and right moments…never realized they were Right There!

- I feel like a foreigner…each time in my own self…there’s so much to explore…and so much to ignore!

- What’s bad is not Not Planting Trees; it’s not being able to take care of them. Same goes for humans too.

- Meeting new people is miraculous. A stranger just told me so much about myself I would have never ever discovered!

- I don’t somehow fit, in this world of neatly drawn lines and concretely defined wishes. Take me where I belong and let me live for a while.

- My fingers, that blank paper & the tip of my pen…something is going on between them. They make me feel I control them. Its the other way!

- I love my words. I can say anything to them. And the best part is…they never fight back. They have that same calm expression everytime!

- Ever saw someone and felt I have seen this face before somewhere. That has started happening to me when I stare at my mirror.

- This room holds me back, in a trance I fail to nail. Thoughts travel at the speed of light, words crawl like a lazy snail.

- It’s a day of colors. It happened just this morning. In black, white & grey shades of the day…your presence added a splash of glow!

- Something blocks the sunshine to enter my room. It’s that huge tree I love the most. Now I sit back & think. Sunshine or Tree?

- When the dawn pricks my eyelids. I wake up and splash water on my face. Those nightmares go swirling in the wash basin. And there I am, fresh again!

- I can’t push away my window curtains, nor can I switch on the music. I can’t wash away the blues on my face. Oh, my hands are missing. Can you check, if I forgot them in your hands, in case?

- I scribbled something on that tissue paper, crushed it in a ball and swung it far away. A breathing paper was found near a café. I just heard a news channel say!

- I am lurking in my own thoughts, trying to avoid the sensitive spots. A journey that begins and ends right there, a hand to hold a memory to share.

- My blues have travelled with me to places, to people, to things…but something suddenly happened when you touched them. The Blues became Brights!

- I hated the way you took off your shoes and threw them aside. Last night when I lay on the bed they were gazing at me. Insecure without you in them!

- Sometimes you simply connect. Deep down. It’s like a long lost twin, suddenly found!

- I can see a leaf outside my window; shivering with a drop of rain. Look there, up in the clouds. My favorite monsoon drizzles again!

- Remember standing in the tunnel of a huge aquarium? Everything so clear…so near…like right here. I want to stand in your thought tunnel that way.

- The wandering ends, the flying halts, dreams decay finding faults. Innocence stands punished, like a naughty boy. Wipe out the freedom, give up the joy!

- I see an electric wire from sprouting from my wall, connects the electric poll, and then another wire, and then another pole. They say this happens from cities to cities. I look at the wire and think of you. Can you feel this connect too?

- I saw you walking towards me; you were lost in a trance. My heart kept pounding, in its own romantic dance!

- Colors brought us together. Your blue pen, my brown diary. Your maroon necktie, my pink lip gloss. Your bottle green shirt, my red perfume bottle. My morning blues, your colorful cues!

- Loving you has been interesting…time well spent, saying what I meant!

When Dreams Come True

She counted butterflies through my eyes
Stood on her toes and; touched the skies
In one long breath, she gulped a cloud
And sang to the birds, clear and loud
She danced in the rain and climbed the trees
She peeped in the nest and hurt her knees
She wept and laughed, she could shout and scream
And cuddled on her bed with a lazy dream
She collected pebbles and milk white stars
Stored them in two transparent jars
Covered her memories in a foggy dawn
And greeted the day with a musical yawn

A weird dream I could never understand
Until they gave my “baby girl” in my hand!

Blue and Black

Battery of my phone was too sleepy to wake me up that morning

The alarm dozed off…

A series of “Getting Late” followed

The mirror frowned at me and I stepped out of that drowsy door…

I sat in the bus that looked like my boss

Always in a hurry, thousand things to worry

A lamppost…A milkman…An idli wallah

Three things my eyes picked up on the way.

And that little brain in there started its day!

A coffee mug, some tapping shoes

I can smell the paper, with news and views

These e-mails I guess were up all night

Spams have their own battle to fight

The cursor moves with a lazy click

Wake up guys “We gotta be quick”

Hustle bustle come and go

Each hour performs a different show

That superfast clock completes one whole round

I see faces disappear, with their annoying sound

I shut that last moron (laptop) and pick up my bag

Jump off the stairs and remove the tag

And that’s when my senses pick up a pace

Those two stuck lips, curve a smile on my face

I breathe, I laugh, I think, I write

And that’s what I call a perfect “Good Night”

Quest

I opened my eyes and saw her first
She was my savior in hunger and thirst
I cling to her till I grew
And then I wanted something new
A passion drove me to taste and smell
The world that they fondly call as Hell
I took my turn and did my best
But then I grew up and needed some rest
She looked at me, a twinkle in her eye
I could feel myself smiling, don’t know why
I held her hand & said “be mine”
And then started looking for another sign
They gave me a job and said you’re good
I could manage the house and the food
But then one day when boredom struck
I went back and asked “Is this my luck?”
She gave me a son to carry my name
And with him came more money and fame
A perfect life, the tag was true
But I grew out of it, for something new
My wrinkled face and graying hair
No other life to live in spare
Then one day I found a pen
And began to write all over again
From letters to words the pages grew
And yet each time the meaning was new
Every word I felt had a life of its own
They often spoke to me in flesh and bone
Never before did I feel this way
My lifelong quest found solace that day
I felt complete with each new word
You must have read or carefully heard
I am leaving my thoughts and words for you
Just in case you’re looking for something new

It’s her…

I can see myself in her eyes and my reflection looks back at me with an expression so real that I sometimes wonder who exists? Is it me in flesh and blood or is it that reflection of mine peeping from her eyes?

She talks softly, pronouncing each word clearly one after the other. She gives me enough time to draw a perfect meaning out of each thought. Nothing confuses me; there are no questions to ask at the end and the best part is that, our conversation is never-ending. She speaks with her eyes!

She held my hand the other day and was counting the lines on my palm. She held her palm close to mine and we could see the lines running from my palm to hers attaching themselves. It didn’t feel miraculous at all. It was meant to be that way.

There is mole on the left side of her neck. I often touch it and play with it when she rests her head on my lap. At times it looks like a heart, then it turns to a black butterfly and when she looks at me, it simply disappears under her neck. I often notice this mole actually breathes with her.

She’s got short hair. She doesn’t comb them and yet they look neat. I have never seen them entangled in each other. Her conditioner adds a nice bounce to them. I’ve seen her hair singing with the wind and dozing with the early morning sun. They try to talk to me but they are so many that the chaos gets difficult to handle. So I don’t listen to them…I just watch them dance on her head.

She has a brown dress that camouflages so well with her body, feels like she’s just pulled over another layer of skin. I see the shades of her skin mixing with the color of her dress. It’s like someone is painting her all over again

Who coined the word LOVE?

It’s such a pale explanation of my feelings for her!
